So here is a perfect example of a bike that someone took way past the limits. I looked up the original bike on the Cannondale web site. Not a bad bike out of the box.

So looking at the upgrades: “Cateye basic computer, Adjustable gooseneck, flat bars (for comfort ride), Serfas gel seat, triple front ring, 11/34 mountain cassette, Shimano Deore XT mountain derailleur, Continental Duraskin+K tires, Truvativ crank, South Col seat expandable seat bag, bottle racks”. Personally I would not call these upgrades, SRAM Red is an upgrade.
I did not run hard numbers here but let’s just say $600 in “upgrades”. So what did the rider get? A race worthy aluminum frame, touring bike. WTF! Take the original price of the bike, add in the $600 in upgrades and purchase yourself a steel touring bike. Done.
